A placemat, a painting, a gobelin?

Photobucket

Today we are looking at a photo of a place mat. Ironically enough, this brings to mind that the word for photo in French is “cliché”. And I say this because a cliché is exactly what I am trying to avoid attempting to describe this place mat.

In reality, to simply call this a place mat is not fair because it could also be a tapestry, a painting, or a gobelin. Be that as it may, let us imagine your table set with six or more of these. The first thing your guests will say to you is:
“ I have never seen place mats like these.”
To which you can reply in all honesty, with an answer devoid of pretension:
“You are right! These are Sara Palacios’ one-of-a-kind place mats, or small tapestries, paintings, collages, quiltings or gobelins…
Bon appétit
